Although replacing the screen yourself is quite easy, having the manufacturer repair it would cost a lot. There are several online retailers where you may get a new screen for your phone. eBay, for example, offers a huge number of electronics providers that carry replacement screens.

This tutorial walks you through the step-by-step procedure of replacing the iPhone screen on your own. Even though this modification is made on an iPhone 6, the iPhone 6s and iPhone 7 are almost identical, too.

First Step: How to Change the Screen on Your iPhone

There are four steps involved in replacing the screen on your iPhone: removing the old screen, removing all of its components, putting them on the new screen, and then installing and connecting the new screen to your phone.

It is beneficial to have a piece of paper and a pen close at hand so you can sketch the phone’s inside and mark which screws you have taken out. The screws must be replaced in the same hole from which they were taken out. They are all various sizes and lengths. It will be much easier for you to reassemble the phone if you take your time disassembling it and keep track of the parts.

Step 2: Eliminating the Broken Display

In order to avoid short circuiting anything when clipping and unclipping connections, turn off your iPhone before you begin.

Now take out the two screws on the bottom of your phone using the Pentelobe screwdriver that you have in your toolbox.

After taking out the screws, peel the screen off the body. If the screen isn’t completely broken, you can remove it from the phone’s body by using the screen pulling suction cup. The screen may be pulled apart by sliding the screen prying tool in between the body and the screen.

The phone’s screen connections are secured in place by a silver cover plate located at the top of the device. Remove the cover plate and the screws by unscrewing them.

Now, unclip the four ribbon cable connectors to the screen using the smaller prying tool. Similar to Lego connections, these connectors snap into place. You may take the screen off the phone’s body after unclipping the ribbon cable connections.

Step 3: Take Out the Elements From the Previous Screen

It is probable that the screen you purchased will not have any extra electronic components installed on it; you will need to transfer these components from your old screen to your new one.

Start by taking off the earpiece, sensor, and camera. Take off the cover plate and screws holding the camera in place.

After removing the cover plate, the camera, sensor, and earpiece should now be easily removable.

The silver cover plate behind the screen, which holds the ribbon wire for the fingerprint sensor and home button, needs to have its screws removed. Take off the screws that surround this cover; it will stay in place until the fingerprint sensor is taken out.

The cover plate covering the fingerprint sensor should then be removed. Using a prying tool, unclip the fingerprint sensor ribbon cable connector. This connector is the same type as is used to clip the other ribbon cables and it simply breaks off.

You may now take the fingerprint sensor out. It is attached using a rubber attachment that has a sticky side. Just use a flat screwdriver or your fingers to remove it off. It ought should remain enough sticky to adhere to the new screen.

The electronics of the fingerprint sensor are secured in place by a tiny white peg; unclip them. To remove it from the peg, use the prying tool.

You are now able to take off the screen cover plate.

The little plastic locators for the camera and the sensor next to the earpiece should be removed last. Use a little screwdriver or tweezers to remove them.

Installing the Components on the New Screen is Step Four.

Once you know how to remove the old screen’s components, installing them on the new one is simple—just follow the instructions backwards.

First, swap out the camera and sensor’s plastic locators.

Replace the sensor and camera now. The parts slide into the plastic locators, and the little white pegs serve as a reference for where to put them.

After replacing the earpiece, tighten the silver cover plate once more.

Next, use the rubber mounting’s adhesive side to adhere the fingerprint sensor to the newly installed screen. Over the white plastic peg, clip the electronics into position.

Securely fasten the ribbon cable connection.

Proceed to reinstall the cover plate of the fingerprint sensor and tighten the screws.

After replacing the screen cover plate, tighten the surrounding screws.

The phone’s screen is now prepared to be put back on the body.

Install the New Screen in Step Five.

Attach the four ribbon connections to the new screen to begin the installation process. It should be simple to determine which one belongs where because they are all diverse in size and form.

Gently fold the screen down and place it on the body. It is now necessary for you to verify that everything you linked is operational. After turning on the phone, check to see that the touch screen, fingerprint sensor, home button, and front camera alignment all function properly. In the event that nothing functions, the ribbon cable connections are probably defective; attempt unclipping and reattaching them.

After everything functions, switch the phone off one more before starting the screen security process. There are two plastic clips at the top of the screen that fit into the phone’s body. Next, the screen may be pushed from the top down into position.

Align the screw holes and snap the bottom into position. In the end, insert the pentelobe screws by sliding them in.

Your phone’s screen has now been successfully replaced!

Restarting the phone makes it operational once more.
